What NEMCO offers
Lesson structure:

Lessons are normally arranged during school time and where possible are rotated on a weekly basis. Each lesson lasts around 30 minutes and normally takes the form of a group session, with no more than four in a group. Alternatively, paired lessons can be arranged. This form of teaching has proved to be most beneficial for beginner to intermediate pupils. Should your son/daughter advance to a stage where you think individual tuition would be of benefit, this too can be arranged. This kind of tuition is particularly useful for students taking GCSE or A level music.

If you would like to hire an instrument so that your child can start playing music and receive tuition, click here for more information. This service is only available for NEMCO students.

History
In 1995, Newcastle upon Tyne City Council disbanded it's schools instrumental teaching service due to cut backs in funding.

In response, 18 peripatetic music teachers from the service formed NEMCO with the full support of the City Council, schools and relevant trade unions to continue offering tuition to schools in the area.

Currently, there are 34 teachers (June 2008). In the development report from the Local Authority 2001 it was quoted that approximately 8% of pupils were learning through Nemco and the numbers of pupils had increased by 28%. Nemco has broadened the range of services provided to schools. Nemco was mentioned on David Blunkett's Website - www.davidblunkett.org.uk and in the Co-operative commission report. We also provide tuition in surrounding authorities.
